Mesa Symphony Honoring Mother’s Day With Free Family Pops Concert
MESA, Arizona (April 6, 1999)…Every year, she gets breakfast in bed and handmade cards. Now you can add a symphony concert to your list of Mother’s Day gifts. The Mesa Symphony Orchestra is presenting its last free family pops concert of the season to honor these special women on Saturday, May 8 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mesa Amphitheatre.
The “Music About Women Who Have Influenced Our Lives” concert features popular selections highlighting the impact and achievements of women across the globe, including:
“Belle of the Ball” by Leroy Anderson
“Evita” excerpts by Andrew Lloyd Webber
“My Fair Lady” selections by F. Loewe
“Across the Wide Missouri Shenandoah” arranged by S. Allen
“Pavanne” from Latin American Sinfonietta by Morton Gould
“Some of the greatest stories about women are told through music,” said Marie Haller, executive director of the Mesa Symphony Orchestra. “This concert is a wonderful way for the East Valley community to join together in appreciation of the special women in our lives.”
Music Director and Conductor Gordon Johnson will lead the Symphony for this concert, which is sponsored by the City of Mesa and Arizona Public Service Company.
The Mesa Symphony is now in its 42nd season of serving Mesa and the East Valley communities. The Symphony presents a full season of classical concerts in both Mesa and Chandler. Throughout the season, the Symphony also presents a series of free family pops concerts and coordinates several educational programs to more than 5,000 school children in Mesa, Chandler and Gilbert.
