Bio for Robert Longoria for Nueces County Sheriff

Bio for Robert Longoria - Candidate for Nueces County Sheriff
“Safer. Stronger. Prouder”

For nearly 30 years, Robert Longoria has worked to make Texas streets safer for our state’s citizens. Since he began his career in law enforcement in 1974, Robert has seen first-hand the challenges our community faces. Now he wants to use those street smarts to serve Nueces County through a new channel – the Sheriff’s office.

Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Robert graduated from Roy Miller High School received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin. He and his wife Elizabeth (Lib) have been married for almost 20 years.

Robert started out as a highway patrol officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) assigned to Mission in the Rio Grande Valley. In 1981, he was promoted to Sergeant in the narcotics division, working undercover across west Texas busting major drug trafficking programs. He transferred back to Corpus to work on a joint DPS, Drug Enforcement Agency and Corpus Christi Police Department investigation, through which he successfully infiltrated the Roberto Solis black tar heroin operation which led to numerous arrests and seizures of illegal assets. Then Robert was given a major challenge in Houston, working on an international money laundering case. His work culminated in multiple arrests and the confiscation of millions of dollars. In 2001, after working in the Houston DPS office for awhile, Robert transferred back to Corpus, where he again helped break a major case and secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, some of which Nueces County received for their assistance. Also in 2001, Robert was named Texas Narcotics Officer of the Year.

Although retired from his officer duties, Robert maintains strong ties with local, county, state and federal agencies. He is running for Sheriff because he believes that we can do better. That we must do better. Robert has three priorities in running for Sheriff, including:

1. Rejuvenate the Sheriff’s department through strong, disciplined leadership

2. Fix the budget through proven business approaches and innovative operations

3. Move the Sheriff’s office from a reactive level to a proactive, solutions-based role
