Touchstone Neurorecovery Center Introduces Separate Community Transitional Living Facility
- Off-campus Janus House provides reintegration opportunities for clients -
December 12, 2006 (HOUSTON, TX)Touchstone Neurorecovery Center, a part of Nexus Health Systems, in Conroe, recently expanded its portfolio
of customized treatment offerings for individuals with brain injuries by adding Janus House. This new free-standing, community-based living
facility, located in the heart of Conroe, and just minutes from Touchstones main campus, helps clients to live more independently and
continue moving toward a more self-sufficient lifestyle.
Janus House has room for 11 residents. This ranch style home is located on one acre of land and is ADA accessible. Janus will have a
program Director to oversee all staff, residents and activities. A case manager will help manage all resident schedules, including
therapies and vocational programs. Five direct care staff will ensure Janus runs smoothly on a daily basiss. Touchstone, is licensed by
the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Services (CARF),
and its contract with the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) is currently pending approval.
Janus House represents a significant stepping stone in Touchstones full continuum of neurological rehabilitation and community
transitional programs, said Ann De La Rosa, director of marketing for Touchstone and a registered nurse. We guide individuals with brain
injuries through a continuum of care that starts with our intermediate-entry level homes on campus. This process allows for advancement
through various skills acquisitions from independent on-campus living to off-campus, community-based living with the ultimate goal of
community re-integration.
Touchstone has 58 on-campus beds and 10 community-based living beds and offers customized treatment programs designed to help individuals
with known or suspected brain injury progress to the highest functional level possible. Touchstone utilizes a medically driven team approach
to provide clinical expertise in Neurology, Neuropsychiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, physical therapy, occupational therapy,
speech and language pathology and behavior management. Each resident treatment plan is customized to address areas of need for each
individual.
Touchstone offers a variety of programming areas, including the Life Skills training program, which prepares residents for the transition
back to home in areas such as meal planning, cooking, laundry, shopping, personal finance and home maintenance. Touchstone is also known
for its vocational rehabilitation program, which consists of job coaching and training, counseling, vocational placement, office skills
training and a craft shop, as well as a number of on-campus businesses including horticulture, landscaping, print shop, auto detailing and
Touchstone Take-Out. Touchstone also helps residents who are ready to work again to connect with employers to help them take that next
step.
