Houston Playing Host To Thousands From Clinical Laboratory Science Industry For ThinkLab 07
- 4-day national conference features more than 75 CME-accredited sessions -
January 29, 2007 (HOUSTON)From March 24-27, more than 3,500 laboratory professionals will converge on Houston for the 31st annual Clinical
Laboratory Management Associations ThinkLab professional development conference. This event offers leaders at every level of the clinical
science community several different educational tracks containing more than 75 Continuing Medical Education accredited seminars, as well as
a wide array of networking and exhibitor opportunities.
The Greater Houston Chapter of the CLMA includes more than 55 laboratory directors, supervisors, managers, industry partners, and other
professionals representing greater Houston-area medical facilities, including The Methodist Hospital, Memorial Hermann Healthcare System,
Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Josephs Hospital, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The Womans Hospital of Texas, Clear Lake Regional
Medical Center, and many others.
ThinkLab 07, taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center, kicks off on Saturday, March 24 with a full-day executive leadership
immersion program titled Leading in the laboratory: preparing for the future. This is an entirely interactive and experiential session
that ranges from presentations on scientific theory to stimulating group exercises and discussions to one-on-one executive coaching.
The next few days consist of various educational tracks, each containing multiple seminars under those overarching themes, which include:
executive leadership, CAP, CLSI, compliance, financial literacy, JCAHO, leadership in the laboratory, legislative, management essentials,
outreach, patient safety, quality management, regulatory, technology and trends, tips & tours. Each of the seminars within those tracks will
be led by one of the more than 80 professional presenters and speakers.
Houston is an important environment for CLMA because it is home to the worlds largest medical center, it has a significant private
hospital community, and it plays a leading role on the national science, space, and technology fronts, said Donna Hermis, president of the
board of directors of the Greater Houston CLMA, and laboratory director at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. Because of the complexity and
diversity of Houstons health care environment, the national CLMA being held here offers a unique opportunity for local laboratory and
industry partners.
Orchard Software, which serves as the laboratory information system provider for more than 650 laboratories across the country, recently
signed on as the multi-year headline sponsor of ThinkLab.
We believe this type of sponsorship agreement is a first for our industry, and solidifies both CLMA and Orchard Software as trailblazers in
health-care education, said Dana Procsal, PhD, CLMA's Chief Executive Officer. "This agreement serves as a clear indication of Orchard
Software's commitment to the long-term future of CLMA and ThinkLab. They believe, as we do, that ThinkLab is a vital event for the
laboratory leaders of tomorrow and that the experience gained by attending our annual conference cannot be duplicated anywhere else."
Members of the press: Inquire about complimentary full conference registration, which includes access to all general and breakout sessions
as well as the exhibit hall; continental breakfast and lunch/brunch vouchers; and a ticket to the CLMA social. Admission to Immersion Day
workshops on Saturday, March 24 is not included in the complimentary registration.
