Shelbyvilles Only Orthopaedic Practice Purchase and Move Into New Building
- Advanced Orthopaedics of Louisvilles new space features on-site physical therapy department -
April 9, 2007 (SHELBYVILLE, KY)Four surgeons in the local office of Advanced Orthopaedics of Louisville recently bought a building at 213
Midland Boulevard and transformed it into a comprehensive medical and rehabilitation facility for patients experiencing knee, hip, shoulder,
and foot problems.
Carroll Witten, Jr., M.D., Paul Sherman, M.D., Joseph Catalano, M.D., had already outgrown their prior space when they brought Todd
Hockenbury, M.D. on as the fourth doctor in the Advanced Orthopaedics practice in early January and wanted to expand their portfolio of
patient care offerings. These doctors, who represent the only orthopaedic surgeons in Shelbyville, decided that it was time to buy their own
building.
The Advanced Orthopaedics group now operates in a 5,400 square foot area as opposed to the 1900 square feet they had previously. In
addition to five exam rooms, an x-ray room, and a cast room, the new offices include a physical therapy center, staffed every day by a
contract rehabilitation specialist. The building, which has been completely remodeled, formerly housed a fitness center.
"We wanted the ability to monitor patients and help facilitate their recovery and rehabilitation, but our previous offices did not allow us
to add that dimension to our practice, said Dr. Sherman. "This new space gave us room to grow our practice and to develop a more complete,
patient-centered environment."
The Advanced Orthopaedics group in Shelbyville is a general orthopaedic practice that performs several hundred partial and total knee, hip,
and shoulder joint replacements every year. Dr. Witten started the Shelbyville practice in 1982 and was followed by Dr. Sherman in 1984 and
Dr. Catalano in 1992. Recently, Dr. Hockenbury brought another dimension to the practice as a foot and ankle specialist and as the most
experienced surgeon in Kentucky in the area of total ankle replacement. The office includes three staff members who support the doctors.
The main office of Advanced Orthopaedics is in Louisville.
Jewish Hospital-Shelbyville, one of the hospitals where the Advanced Orthopaedics surgeons practice, recently was rated as a five-star
hospital for Total Knee Replacement by HealthGrades (www.healthgrades.com), the leading independent health care ratings company. Advanced
Orthopaedics is the only such practice in Shelbyville, thus representing the force behind that hospitals prestigious ranking. Advanced
Orthopaedics leverages innovative technologies and joint implants from Stryker Orthopaedics, a global leader in the development, manufacture,
and sale of orthopedic products and services.
According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) about 500,000 hip and knee replacement
procedures are performed annually in the United States. This figure is expected to increase as the population ages, as baby boomers live
more active lives and as arthritis affects more people. Currently, more than 70 million Americans suffer from some form of this degenerative
disease.
