Kids and Babies at HealthBridge Childrens Hospital Keep Warm with Stylish Donations from Crocheters
- Crochet Guild of America chapters donate blankets, hats, and socks -
February 24, 2007 (HOUSTON, TX)Young patients at HealthBridge Childrens Hospital have an unlikely ally in the battle to express their
individual fashion styles: crocheters. While traditional hospital environments and standard-issue gowns are far from haute couture,
HealthBridge patients are both keeping warm and looking trendy, thanks to donations from several local chapters of the Crochet Guild of
America.
The local Houston chapter, along with chapters from Wisconsin and Illinois, donated more than 100 hats, as well as socks and blankets, for
kids receiving treatments and care at HealthBridge. Blankets and hats are important to keeping infants warm, but older patients jumped at
the opportunity to choose from hats of distinctive colors and design themes, including some that looked like candy corn and pom poms.
Our staff is always excited to receive in-kind donations that benefit the young kids and families we serve, said Geoffrey Swaby,
administrator at HealthBridge Childrens Hospital in Houston. The crochet organizations were very thoughtful to provide us with these hats,
socks, and blankets and our patients have made good use of them.
The donations stemmed from a request from a HealthBridge employee who crochets and sent a message to crochet audiences on the Internet.
Hospital staff provided the items to patients and their families either upon admission to the hospital or at the time of release. As the
hospital expands in the future, it will encounter a need for donations such as toys for its activity centers and playground.
HealthBridge recently received the Star Award from the Houston West Chamber for the hospitals achievements related to economic growth,
community involvement, and customer recognition. HealthBridge also was named one of the Top 25 Specialty Hospitals in Houston by the
Houston Business Journal.
