End Hunger Network and Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw Produce First Meals at Mary Barden Keegan Hunger Relief Center

- Law firm associates prepare first meals from End Hunger Networks new kitchen and storage facility -

July 31, 2006 (HOUSTON, TX)Law students and attorneys from the Houston office of international law firm Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw will prepare the first of nearly two million meals to be provided this year to Houstons hungry at End Hunger Networks Mary Barden Keegan Hunger Relief Center. A dozen summer associates will join twenty Houston Mayer Brown attorneys for the event, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2006.

The End Hunger Network recently celebrated the grand opening of the Mary Barden Keegan Hunger Relief Center, a new 14,950 square-foot building located at I-45 and North Main. The facility is the only one of its kind in the Americas Second Harvest Network and features state-of-the-art kitchen facilities, cold and freezer storage, and meal preparation and distribution services. The facility is expected to provide 1.7 million individual meals for Houstons hungry in its first year of operation.

End Hunger Network invites the media to attend as the first meals are prepared from this innovative new facility at 2445 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77009.

The groundbreaking and grand opening of our hunger relief center were exciting events, but the preparation of the first meals reflects the transition from vision to reality, said David Davenport, executive director of End Hunger Network. Tuesday night, End Hunger Network and its partner agencies and supporters are taking a huge step forward in an effort to ensure that no Houston woman, man, child or family goes hungry again.

Mayer, Brown has been a good friend to End Hunger Network, Davenport continued, noting that the firm donated $50,000 in 2005 to support the organizations hurricane relief efforts.

We are excited to continue our support of the End Hunger Networks mission of ending hunger in the greater Houston area, said Mike Niebruegge, partner-in-charge of the Houston office of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. We also wanted to coordinate a program involving our summer associates that would demonstrate our commitment to giving back to the community and how a law firm can make an impact for those in need.
