808 Inc. Takes on I Have a Dream Houston as Pro Bono Client for Branding, Advertising, and Communications Campaign

- Creative shop to help nonprofit boost visibility, recruit volunteers, and increase donations

August 16, 2007 (HOUSTON, TX)Houston creative and production shop 808 Inc. recently agreed to develop a comprehensive public service advertising and outreach campaign on behalf of I Have a Dream Houston, which provides low-income, inner-city kids with educational support programs and higher education tuition scholarships.

808 Inc. first is evaluating I Have a Dreams corporate brand identity to determine how best to position the charity as the only long-term mentoring and dropout prevention program in the greater Houston area. The creative team then will concept and produce several television and radio spots, print ads, and Web banners, as well as redesign I Have a Dreams Web site.

We looked at a number of possible creative partners, but 808 Inc. was the only service provider we invited to help us, said Petri Darby, chair of I Have a Dreams marketing committee and vice chair of the board of directors. Their reputation in the Houston advertising and marketing community precedes them and their creative portfolio is filled with compelling and innovative work that any client dreams about. We knew we wanted 808 Inc. to handle our account, and we were thrilled when they signed on.

I Have a Dream, which has been an active force in the local community for nearly 20 years, recently approached 808 Inc. to enlist its expertise in recruiting more volunteers to support the needs of elementary, middle school, and high school students, also known as Dreamers, in the program. While hundreds of Dreamers currently benefit from I Have a Dreams efforts, more than half of the boys involved are waiting for a Dream Partner. I Have a Dream also is seeking new corporate and individual donors to help facilitate its plans for expansion to schools throughout the Houston area.

I Have a Dream, and the kids it serves, has a great story to tell one involving struggle, perseverance, hope, and endless possibility, said Robert Campbell, partner and creative director for 808 Inc. The organization also is clear about its objectives and how to measure success. Those factors, coupled with the heartwarming mission and creative opportunities made our decision to accept the assignment really easy.

For 10 years, I Have a Dream has participated in an annual independent evaluation process conducted by California Sate University, Long Beach that helps measure the programs success in a number of areas. More than 85 percent of Dreamers in the I Have a Dream program graduate from high school, compared with just 55 percent of students in the Houston Independent School District who graduate within four years. Of those Dreamers, 60 percent are African American, 40 percent are Hispanic, and 100 percent live in poverty.

808 Inc. previously has handled work for clients such as Jiffy Lube, The George R. Brown Convention Center, Lubys, Centerpoint, The Anime Network, Yaffe | Deutser Advertising, Cap-Rock Wine and Cat Lift Trucks, just to name a few.
